About BGW

Barcelona Gallery Weekend celebrates the opening of the season with a special programme in the most relevant art galleries of Barcelona, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and the Penedès region. The exhibitions are complemented by a parallel agenda of guided visits by gallerists, artists and curators, performances, meetings, presentations and other special activities around contemporary and modern art.

Barcelona Gallery Weekend, a project by Art Barcelona, seeks to reinforce and make visible the rich and varied artistic scene of Barcelona, promote art collecting and highlight the work of the galleries, as culture generating spaces open to citizens, and the artists they represent. From 14th to 17th September 2023, we celebrate our 9th edition. Save the date and discover Barcelona through art!

The Public Programme includes guided tours to the participating galleries (ARCO GalleryWalks) and specific visits for families with children (BGW Familiar) during the weekend, and suggested tours to visit the galleries autonomously, using text-guides by local curators. BGW2023 will feature the Walks by curators Sara Catalán, Pilar Cruz, Mariella FranzoniSabel GavaldonGabriel Virgilio Luciani, Zaida Trallero and Veronica Valentini.

The Professional Programme is aimed at collectors, curators, art critics and representatives of local and international art institutions. We design personalized tours, professional meetings, social events and exclusive activities to get to know Barcelona's artistic offer and build synergies between our guests.

The Acquisitions Programme addresses foundations and private companies that commit to incorporate into their collections artworks from among those exhibited in the participating galleries during BGW.

Parallel Program: The Collector is Present (May 19-20, 2023).
For the new spring appointment that took place last May, 17 gallerists invited 27 collectors to intervene in their spaces for a weekend, becoming actively involved in the galleries' programming. As a result of this collaboration, the parallel program The Collector is Present offered an agenda of exhibitions, meetings, walks, guided tours and conversations focused on art collecting, highlighting the relationship established between gallery owners and collectors and showing ways of relating to art and the different motivations for acquiring it.
