Old threats. New armies, exhibition by the artist Lluís Barba, is a project that integrates photography, sculpture and video in an interactive space, and will try to break physical boundaries with an exhibition at Contrast Gallery in Barcelona, supported by various online actions.
Through the revision of Goya's classic work, in Los Caprichos, Los Desastres de la Guerra and Los Disparates, the artist reinterprets concepts to bring images of that understood horror that human beings generate when they attack nature and their own society, and thereby highlight the way in which these horrors operate in today's world.
Complaint and humor, which evoke Greco’s sense of the necessary complement between tragedy and comedy, will accompany the viewer in the journey of these images, causing laughter at how absurd our way of conceiving reality is, while we attempt against ourselves, against our ecosystem and against humanity.
“I try to reconstruct my own virtual reality, as I have always imagined would be being inside a work of art created by one of the masters of the past and considered as an historical master piece. This is why I include famous contemporary characters as well as “tourists”, that I conceived as visitors of the scenes inside those master pieces, not in an invasive way but creating a subjective rereading of the historical piece [...]".
