Mayoral, exhibition: Mari Chordà, 2021

Mayoral, founded in 1989, is a gallery located in Barcelona and Paris. The gallery articulates an intergenerational exhibition program focused on the best of post-war and contemporary Spanish art, promoting artists such as Tàpies, Chillida, Millares, Saura, Zóbel, Francés, and Chordà, alongside works by key twentieth-century avant-garde artists such as Miró and Picasso, as well prominent artists of today’s generation.
 
The gallery develops projects that are rigorously curated and grow out of an exhaustive process of research. The gallery relies upon the support of the artists’ families, foundations and other institutions as well as collectors and museums, both public and private, when it comes to accomplishing its mission.
 
In recent years Mayoral has presented projects such as “Miró’s Studio,” and retrospectives dedicated to Millares, Tàpies, Saura and Chordà, as well as dialogues between artists such as Miró/Zao Wou-Ki and Francés/Vieira da Silva, which delved into the creative process of the artists and analysed how their work continues to be relevant today.
 
The gallery participates in art fairs such as Art|Basel, Art|Basel Miami, Art|Basel Hong Kong, TEFAF Maastricht, TEFAF New York and ARCOmadrid.

José Pérez Ocaña (Cantillana, 1947 - Seville, 1983) was one of the main figures of the Barcelona counterculture movement in the 1970s. Indeed, his great popularity continues to conceal his work as an artist, an original practice which announced —30 years in advance— an exemplary model of creating art for the 21st century. This exhibition, curated by Pedro G. Romero, brings together around 40 drawings, paintings and papier-mâché sculptures which show Ocaña’s capacity for transformation and transformism, his performativity.

Susana Solano (Barcelona,1946) studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, ​​where she also taught. He has participated in international competitions such as the Documenta de Kassel VIII and IX (1987 and 1992), the XIX Biennial of São Paulo (1987), the Skulptur Projekte in Münster (1987), the Venice Biennale (1988 and 1993) and the Carnegie Pittsburgh International (1988).

She was awarded the Special Prize, awarded by the Utsukushi-Ga-Hara Open-Air Museum, in Tokyo (1985), and the National Prize for Visual Arts from the Spanish Ministry of Culture (1988). In 1996 she received the CEOE Award for the Arts and in 2011, the Tomás Francisco Prieto Award from the Royal Mint, the GAC Award, in Barcelona (2015) and Mestres, the FAD chain in Barcelona (2018).   

She, on the other hand, has collaborated on different occasions with architects for exterior projects: José Acebillo, Ignacio Linazasoro, Hans Hollein, Ignasi Sánchez Domènech, Rafael Moneo, Victor Rahola, Francisco Torres, Javier Romero and Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra.
