Contemporary Art as Future Heritage: Shared Knowledge between Spain and Latin America

Casa Bonay and Barcelona Gallery Weekend present: In Conversation With...
Marielsa Castro, Chief Curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM); Miguel López, Chief Curator of the Museo Universitario del Chopo; María Wills, independent curator; and Claudia Segura, Head of MACBA Collection.

Beyond its role in legitimizing trends, contemporary art curating also has a forward-looking vocation and, through its discourse, enables the creation of narratives and memories intended to endure. Through a dialogue between stakeholders from the institutional sector and the Spanish and Latin American art markets, this conversation explores how it is essential, from the standpoint of the present, to recognize this shared responsibility in defining and preserving the cultural heritage of tomorrow.

The session —moderated by Georgia Taglietti, founder of The ICNAC— is made possible thanks to the support of the Subdirectorate General for Visual Arts and Contemporary Creation of the Ministry of Culture. Jesús Carrillo, its head, will give a brief introduction.

Don’t you feel like burning everything down? Cross the walls of habit, turn your routine into fire. Why have you surrendered to renunciation? Why do you abjure your visions? Wake from the dream of the Insensitive. Do not work, do not accumulate, sleep as many hours as you want. Collaborate with the clouds and the wind, with sunbeams and satellite waves. Be your own Artificial Intelligence. Deceive those who deceive you. Steal hope from the sellers of hope. Give yourself over each day to a different dream. You have nothing to lose because you have already lost everything.

Ignacio Iñigo: Suspended Time

Performance by Ignacio Iñigo as a living extension of the exhibition 'The Time That Remains'.

The artist will unfold a small painting from its initial state as pigment, revealing the beginning of the material's transformation. At the same time, he will suspend, fold and arrange several pre-prepared paint "skins," creating an ephemeral installation that enters into dialogue with the works on display. The action will unfold slowly, accompanied by music, conversation and reflections on his artistic practice. Rather than presenting a finished artwork, Suspended Time invites the audience to experience the very time in which the work comes into being, transforming the creative process into an open experience that extends and enriches the universe of the exhibition.

Screening of the handwritten notes that form the basis of ‘For Laía’, a sound piece constructed from everyday messages written in a domestic context for the artist’s mother and father. Compiled by the artist and kept for years, the notes were subsequently read aloud once more by her mother and father for the recording.

A research project exploring stigma among contemporary female artists has generated this exhibition. It is part of a project by Ana Laura Aláez in collaboration with Halfhouse, which takes Barcelona as its starting point. The exhibition ‘3 x 2 no son seis (3 x 2 is not six)’ represents a fragment of this study, which is intended to continue over time and will take on different formats. In this instance, it is brought to life through the work of the participating artists themselves:   
six voices, a committed practice, multiple resonances.
